According to The World Health Organization, in India, suicide is an emerging and serious public health issue. Suicide rates in India have been rising on an average of 10% over the past five years and after the pandemic it has shown significant increase. If we look back, the pandemic impacted people at multiple levels and it still has left lasting effects on their minds. This situation is not being given the attention and intervention it demands.
We at Sisters Living Works (SLW) have been working relentlessly toward spreading suicide prevention awareness through our Workshops, Support Groups, Conferences, Training programs. Since 2021, we have been able to impact more than 10,000 lives. We have initiated new programs like Teachers Training, First Responder Training and One on One Counseling services in last two years. We have also been serving vulnerable communities. One of our beneficiaries says:
“It was a really very wonderful session, which really helped a lot to understand the signs, myths, facts, causes of suicide and what can we do to prevent it. And I’m really very thankful to SLW for giving this much guidance today which can really be helpful for lifetime. And I hope that this types of workshops can happen in future too.
