Newsletter (April-June 2023)

When you don’t have the strength to take another step, ask those you love to pull you.”— Unknown

Greetings from Sisters Living Works (SLW)!

This quarter we achieved our goal of reaching more than 1,500 people through our programs. Spreading awareness and educating people about mental health has been rewarding for us.

“I got an idea how to make people aware, how to handle a vulnerable without panicking or getting stressed. I also know now, how to approach for a help. Thank you SLW team for a wonderful session” said one of the participant.

Our Initiatives

1. Suicide Prevention and Awareness Workshops

SLW has collaborated with more than 100 organizations, schools, and colleges to work together toward the cause. Our workshop helps people to change their perspective, understanding and provides them with a platform to express themselves. We encourage them to share their stories and experiences and measure their understanding with the help of a pre-post survey.

2. Training Programs for School Counselors and Educators

In the year 2020, more than 34 students died by  suicide every day, according to the National Crime Record Bureau India. Children and teens spend significant time in school. Educators and Counsellors who interact with students daily are in a prime position to identify the signs of suicide risk and to make appropriate referrals. Last quarter, we conducted training program with low income teachers and counsellors.

We educated them on how to identify and communicate with at-risk students, implement strategies to help students who are suicidal, work with parents in the context of suicide, and the follow the protocols in the aftermath of a suicide in a school.

3. Instagram Live

Other way we strive to spread awareness about mental health is through Instagram Live sessions. Our objective here is to create a live platform for people to ask questions directly to the experts. We invite trained and experienced professionals to have a live conversation with us. These professionals not only answer questions but also give insightful advice and tips on how to improve mental health. This quarter  we covered following topics:

1. Children Mental Health

2. Women Mental Health

3. Relationships and Mental Health

4. Mental Health in Everyday life

4. Counselling

We understand that mental health services is not accessible to all. SLW provides free counseling services to low-income groups. Our goal is make them aware about mental health care . We provide face to face and online counseling sessions.

5. Support Group

The grief process is always difficult, but a loss through suicide is like no other, and the grieving can be especially complex and traumatic. The group holds meetings at designated location (online and offline) where participants can share, process their emotions related to their loss, remember their loved ones they lost to suicide, and provide strength to one another in times of need.
