Double the Impact of Your Donation!

Greetings from Sisters Living Works! We hope you have been doing well.
There has never been a better time to donate to Sisters Living Works and make an impact!

Double the impact of your donation!

One of our most generous donors, The Bewtra Charity Fund (Manju and Naren Bewtra), will match the donations you make to Sisters Living Works up to a total of $5,000. This matching will take place until 24th December 2020 i.e. Christmas Eve.

Help us raise $10,000 by Christmas Eve!

This year, through our virtual events, we were able to reach people outside Mumbai and across the country! Sisters Living Works has reached out to over 6,000 people through workshops and trained them on suicide prevention. It’s your generous support that has made this possible!

India is facing substantial changes politically, economically, socially, and
demographically due to the pandemic. This has a direct impact on the mental health of its citizens. According to the first comprehensive ‘Mental Health Survey’ conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in 2016, an estimated 150 million Indian adults are in need of mental health interventions and approximately 30 million only get the help. With the lockdown, these numbers increased in alarming numbers. Within a week of the start of the lockdown, the number of reported cases of mental illness in India had risen by 20%. Further, more recent findings of a survey carried out by the Bengaluru-based Suicide Prevention Foundation of India among mental health professionals have shown that nearly 65% of therapists observed an increase in self-harm and suicide ideation or death wish amongst those who sought therapy since the pandemic hit.

Even with numbers so dire, most Indians remain unaware that suicide is a national health problem. The impact suicide has on the lives of family members, friends, co-workers, and the community is devastating. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that there are only 28 countries that have a suicide prevention policy in place, and India is not one of them. This is due to inadequate suicide data, poor availability of resources and funding, and the lack of government involvement in making mental health care vital.

We believe community-based suicide prevention methods like the “gatekeeper” that trains laypersons on how to identify warning signs of suicide, respond, and refer the person to appropriate mental health professionals are important and should be widely implemented. We have been contributing to this area by ensuring suicide prevention information is widely accessible through our workshops. Our workshops have been widely praised and the feedback has been positive and encouraging!

Even in the midst of a global pandemic, your support for our work and organization has remained unwavering. We will continue to expand our workshops and support groups. Soon, we will be introducing a new ‘Counsellor Training’ program that helps school counselors aid students through mental health crises.

We need your help to reach out to 10,000 more individuals in the year 2021-2022!

With the help of the generous Bewtra Charity Fund and you, we can raise $10,000!

The larger your donation, the bigger the matching!

However, no amount is too small. We encourage you to donate as much as possible and support our endeavors in sensitizing people and saving lives!
The difference that your contribution can make to individuals struggling with suicidality is invaluable.
