Bringing Light and Hope to your Day!

Hello, Sisters Living Works patrons!

With the second half of the year 2020 looking just as uncertain as the first, we at Sisters Living Works want to bring to you some positive news!

We are a small team working in the space of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. We have always and continue to work from home. During this phase, we brought our workshops and support groups virtual. Since April we were acutely aware of the possible mental toll this new lifestyle would take on the larger population. As always, the Suicide Prevention Workshops and the Support Groups continued, but with increased frequency. We noticed that doubts and anxiety had started to creep in due to being locked indoors and the uncertainty of the future.

Positive News from SLW’s support group

As a step towards creating a safety net for the community, Devika Kapoor, our counsellor and support group facilitator increased the number of support groups held in a month. Alongside her private practice, she was able to provide support to the community during a time of collective upheaval. She noticed an increase in the number of participants in May. In these 3 months alone she was able to reach out to 175 people.

Positive News from SLW’s Workshops

With the world shifting the  attention to the digital space, we were not far behind. Ketki Sanghavi, our Program Manager was quick to line up a string of workshops on Suicide Prevention Awareness.

Anticipating the rise in people seeking knowledge to cope with these trying times, she doubled the number of Suicide Prevention Awareness Workshops. Oftentimes, her workshops would stretch on longer than the designated hours, due to an outpouring of personal stories and support within the attendees.

Quickly the workshop grew in popularity and soon, we were receiving pre-registrations for upcoming workshops with the registration numbers shooting up to 200 people. In order to reach more people, Ketki also held Instagram Live sessions. Through these live streams and the workshops we reached 1,350 people!

Collectively, Sisters Living Works reached a total of almost 1,555 people in 3 months! We have been extremely proud to be a beacon of knowledge and hope to our community at this time, when the need is really high.

It brings us great joy and pride to tell you that our efforts have been noticed! The community work we have been doing is getting recognised. To read more about Sisters Living Works’ coverage in the news click the links below.

Diu is the first Union Territory in India to become 100% Solar Powered!

Diu which has a population of 56,000 now has 13 MW solar capacity. Diu used to depend on neighboring cities to generate electricity, but after switching to solar energy, residents have seen a 12% decrease in electricity bills and it costs the Union Territory much less to produce solar energy! This could pave the way for more States to turn to green energy in the future.
